Points
of Inspiration As
it flows from its origin, the river meets with a variety of symbols important
in my life. The spiral represents growth and change. The crow is regarded
by Native Americans as the creature who tells us to create balance and
to keep in touch with what we long for. (There are many, many crows around
my home.) The waxing crescent moon is a monthly sign of rebirth. The five
universal shapes, identified by Angeles Arrien, are the circle for wholeness;
the triangle for vision and goals; the cross for relationship; the square
for stability; and the spiral for growth and change. The Mayan design
of circle and spiral, wholeness and growth, suggests an eye to help us
focus. The hummingbird is viewed as a symbol of healing and joy. The waves
of the ocean speak of movement and constancy to me. At the bottom of this
scroll are bands of green and brown earth holding the roots of all life.
