The Tree of Life
In many cultures throughout history, the tree has been identified as a symbol of life, often connected with the river or stream as the source of life-giving nourishment. This particular tree is full and rich, growing tall and reaching to the five universal shapes at the ends of its branches. These five shapes symbolize themes in life: the triangle of vision, dreams and goals; the circle of wholeness; the cross of relationship; the spiral of growth and change; and the square of stability.

This tree called for a red river, red being the color of passion and the life blood in us. The moon and sun are both full and large bringing light, even in the dark times. The seedlings in the earth are the newness, the ideas and the possiblities always present in life. Rising from the earth and traveling up the sides of the tree is the energy that fuels all things. The focusing eye of the Mayan symbol brings us to the heart of this tree of life, perhaps to the heart of our own life.
